Out of all the historic beer oddities, Alsatian Biére de Mars may be the quirkiest. Literally translated as March beer, this style has been around since the 14th century and was traditionally brewed in fall immediately after the hop harvest and fermented low and slow over the cold northern winters for release in spring. With influences from north-eastern France’s Alsace region (kinda French, kinda German) the style has been described as a mish-mash of Weissbier, Marzen and Biére de Garde, if your tastebuds can imagine that!
Cabin's interpretation - Mish Mash Alsatian Biére de Mars pours a brilliantly clear copper, with earthy and fruit-forward aromas of spruce, red berry fruits, light chocolate and the merest whisp of cherry-wood smoke. They used a Kolsch yeast to make it crisp and dry, and has a lingering bitterness that makes it wildly refreshing. It’s an intriguing blend of influences, styles, ingredients and lore, and we love it!
